It’s
important to realize that Hank & Carole Austin are full time FUSION dealers.
Their approach to price selection is based on giving the best possible
price on all new powerchutes and providing continued excellent levels of service
and training. There will always be
“deals” on the internet, but often such a deal is cloaked with problems.
Shelby
Paraflite offers below MSRP pricing, often FREE training, housing and other

Customer
Service
Shelby
Paraflite is open 7 days per week year around.
They take great pride in providing complete customer satisfaction.
Often with any completely new activity, buyers get more and more
questions relating to flying powerchutes. Hank
and Carole are as close as the phone any time to answer questions as they arise.
Carole is very experienced at chute color selection and the offering of
the many options that new buyers need to consider.
Hank is a specialist in training even the most unlikely students.
He is always available for your questions.
Normally much additional time is spent familiarizing students with the
operation of the two-stroke engines and other features of the FUSION powered
parachute. As with any new engine,
special break-in procedures are necessary and with Hank’s experience, such
items are handled easily. Housing,
transportation, weather and other problems are handled with ease due to the
dedication of the owners and instructors at
Training
It
takes the average student 4 to 5 hours of flight instruction to solo their new
FUSION. Some find training to be
quicker and some find that they need more time to develop a good level of
confidence to fly on their own.
All training starts with one or more INTRODUCTORY flights or
“orientation” flights to get an overview of the items that they will learn
to master in the air. The next
lesson is TAXI PRACTICE which provides two learning areas. Sitting
up in the front seat to get the visual orientation of the craft and manipulation
of the throttle and steering controls. Taxi
lessons vary from 15 to 30 minutes depending on many factors.
Once the student feels comfortable in the front seat, then they move on
to SIMULATOR PRACTICE. In the
simulator, a student can get the feel of actually lifting off the ground (about
12 inches) and controlling the craft in simulated flight conditions.
Simulator practice is invaluable as a confidence booster prior to the
first actual front-seat flight. Typically
a student will fly the simulator for two 20 minute sessions.
The first “dual” front seat flight is thrilling to any new student.
Of course, having an experienced instructor in the back seat is
necessary. In a short time, the
student develops the ability to control the craft without corrections from the
instructor and eventually makes their first solo flight.
After
two or three “supervised” solo flights ( with the instructor in close radio
contact) the student is “released” for unsupervised flight at their own
flying field to build up their flight experience.
Once a student has acquired the necessary 28 hours of experience, they
can return for their BFI or Basic Flight Instructors rating which allows them to
fly with passengers.
There
are no shortcuts to good instruction and Hank and his other instructors are very
experienced, taking even the smallest items seriously.
Shelby Paraflite has literally “written the book” regarding ppc
flight instruction for many other companies.

No
two training situations are alike. Although
they may start out that way, sometimes the weather or other factors may upset
the training schedule. Sometimes
other problems may interrupt training and new plans need to be made.
These life situations are really normal and Shelby Paraflite is very
flexible to meet the individual needs of students everywhere.
No
problem is too big. Often training
may start in one location and end at some other location to accommodate changing
weather or other business necessities.

building tips…
Shelby
Paraflite has been a leader in the powerchute industry since it’s inception in
1997. Hank and Carole have a
formula that has proved quite successful in the ppc industry and they are happy
to share their knowledge with buyers who express an interest in becoming FUSION
dealers. Owing to the fact that the
industry as a whole is in its infancy, the opportunities abound for creative
individuals who want to build their own business.
